Learning Objectives
- Review the evidence supporting the association between oral and systemic disease conditions
- Describe the role of inflammation in systemic disease conditions
- Discuss how the mitigation of oral/periodontal disease can significantly lower the risk of systemic disease conditions
- Relate the importance of and models for interprofessional/interdisciplinary communication and collaboration in addressing the dual components (oral and systemic) of disease to provide optimal patient care
