Intended Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, advanced degree nurses, and pharmacists treating patients with a variety of inflammation-related systemic conditions.


Learning Objectives

  • Review the evidence supporting the association between oral and systemic disease conditions
  • Describe the role of inflammation in systemic disease conditions
  • Discuss how the mitigation of oral/periodontal disease can significantly lower the risk of systemic disease conditions
  • Relate the importance of and models for interprofessional/interdisciplinary communication and collaboration in addressing the dual components (oral and systemic) of disease to provide optimal patient care
